What is Gouache? and Other Goings On's (Instagram and #BrokenAnkleArt)

Got some Gouache from a gift certificate that I was given.  What is Gouache you say?  It's a watercolor that is mostly opaque instead of translucent like regular watercolor.  It can be used in combination with watercolor or just by itself. The effect it has is that of a flat look that I find appealing.  I'm adding it to the many other things that I want to try our. Instagram!  I have my Instagram account setup (todd.blackley) where I've started posting a bunch of my artwork.  You can also find it using my hashtag of #BrokenAnkleArt Enjoy and Merry Christmas.

Just Made These

These are mixed media (ink + watercolor) yesterday. It appears that I’ve got two different styles going on, the Value Markers and Watercolor mixed media. Trying to rotate between the styles. Watercolor one week, value markers the next. I went up Big Pine Creek road the other day looking at the fly fishing options for spring and the canyon had a ton of old barns with character. Took photos so that may be my next project. Mixed Media Watercolor approx 5×7 and 6 x8 in size. Happy Christmas everyone.

What a Difference a Day Makes (last Thursday to be precise)

Been a stressful early part of the week but turned around to be a great week.  Mostly about my latest ankle visit to the doctor.  It's healing and just needs more time but there is light at the end of the tunnel and I can see it.  Next doctor appt is in 6 weeks and that should be the end of it!   In the house I can walk around without my brace.  This is a big deal.  The feeling of a soft sock on that foot has been missing for almost 3 months.  Oh it feels so nice.  I've got some P.T. to perform on it and heating but I've entered a new phase (end phase?) and I'm starting to see my life getting back to "normal" in the near future.  By "normal" I mean fishing and hiking in a few months as I was before.  I may buy some better boots for hiking, just to be on the safe side. In other news, I've got my latest drawing done.  You don't get to see all the other work I those away because it's so bad or I'm just trying different things out.  On a

The Holiday Season

Yes it's a (the) holiday season but it doesn't feel much like one.  Not getting together, very little travel and in general there has not been very much to be thankful for.  But there are some things. I connected with an old work buddy just to make sure he's OK.  He is and that is all good.   I make some apple pies and handled them out to the sanitation truck guys (there are 3 on the truck) as I have for the last couple of years.  They are always a happy bunch that gets to ride around one the back of a truck.  The other pie went to the local police department.   Handed out cookies and treats to local friends that I made.  They went quite quickly. Mailed out our cards and got them done. Ordered the last gift for Bobbie. Paid our next's months health insurance. premium (Jan, 2021)  This is a big deal as 1) it confirms that we have health insurance for next year and 2) my ankle's needs are still not out of the da-woods as far as surgery is concerned. Enjoying the lack
